Mid last month, 05/15/2013, was Quince de Mayo, aka the first day of the Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season.With impeccable timing, opening day ceremonies included the formation of the year’s first Tropical Depression, as TD-1E developed about 800 miles SSE of Baja, Mexico.
That lead-off low quickly strengthened to storm status, becoming Tropical Storm Alvin. Early on it looked like TS Alvin would continue to steadily intensify and possibly hit hurricane force. But instead Alvin’s WNW heading lead to cooler waters, increased wind shear and a rapid demise, so after a few short days it was adios Alvin.
