Transpac Video Coverage From KTLA Local TV in Los Angeles

Some Transpac 2013 overview coverage video during the last few days from Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach. Gayle Anderson was live in Long Beach for the 47th Transpacific Yacht  Race or Transpac 2013, as the second set of yachts prepare to  disembark from Point Fermin in San Pedro at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11th and  the third set on Saturday, July 13th. The Transpacific Yacht Race (Transpac) is an offshore yacht race starting off Point Fermin, San Pedro, near Los Angeles, and ending off Diamond Head Lighthouse in Honolulu, a distance of around 2,225 nautical miles (2,560 mi; 4,121 km). Started in 1906, it is one of yachting's premier offshore races and attracts entrants from all over the world. The race is organized by the Transpacific Yacht Club. When It Comes to Beachwater Quality, CA Ranks in the Bottom Third

KCET Out of the 30 U.S. states with ocean or lakefront beaches, California ranks 20th when it comes to water quality, found a study released today by the Natural Resources Defense Council. A five percent decrease from the previous year, there were 5,515 instances of beaches closing or experiencing advisories in California due to polluted waters, which represents a quarter of closures and advisory notices nationwide in 2012. Transpacific Yacht Race 2013: 59 boats race towards Hawaii this July – this is Transpac

Hawaii Reporter Report from the Honolulu Transpacific Committee - It has been described as a life changing adventure, a whirlwind of unbelievable competition and a seafaring challenge unlike any other in the world.  This is Transpac.  In just under 1 month on July 8, 2013 there will be 59 skippers racing their boats towards Hawaii from Long Beach, along with novice, intermediate and professional crews. As of June 20, 2013 Transpac has received four entries from Hawaii-based boats, Pyewacket, Kahuna, Casch Mer and Grand Illusion. Of course, Hawaii’s very own James McDowell, skipper of Grand Illusion, was the winner in the last Honolulu Race (2011) of the King Kalakaua Trophy awarded to the First Corrected Overall yacht.  Hundreds of sailors from Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, California, Mexico, Chicago, Japan, San Francisco, and now a late entry from Thailand, along with many other ports of call, will very soon head across the Pacific Ocean in this historic yacht race Continue Reading......
